Vital Records Index: Spanish Region
Use the Vital Records Viewer icon in the "Novell-Delivered Applications" window.
This CD information from birth, christening, and marriage records from selected parishes in Spain. Some names found in the Vital Records Index may also be found on the International Genealogical Index (IGI) produced by the Church.
This index includes:
- Records that cover an approximate time period from 1502 to 1905.
- Approximately 3,203,000 christening records and 750,000 marriage records for Spain.
- The names of the individual; the parents' names and, when available; the date and place where the birth, christening, or marriage was registered; and the name of the individual's spouse.
- Reference information that allows you to locate the original record on microfilm.
This is not a complete index. Your ancestor may not appear here even though you know he or she lived in a time and place covered by the index. Because of certain restrictions, only selected parishes were extracted. The Church will continue to update the Vital Records Index, adding millions of new names with each update.
Localities used within this index are generally represented as they were in the mid-1800s. While this does not take into account border changes in earlier or later time periods, it does closely represent the proper localities for most of the records found in this collection.
